The Victor
How was he to know
I unlike the others
would not trample on his heart
in my quest for freedom
Before I could offer my hand
he drew first blood
satisfied that tonight
he would be the victor
My steps faltered
the venom took it's hold
I battled to remain upright
outlast the inevitable
Eyelids slowly closing
Slipping softly to the ground
My breaths turned into gasps
As I lay there
life slowly ebbing away
my eyes opened
looking towards the heavens
incredulous with wonder
A new hope filled me
Pain no longer touched me
I had reached my destination
and doing so
attained an everlasting Nirvana
Alas!
It was I who was the victor.
